Spring/Summer 2011 Fashion Collections

Here are the Spring/Summer 2011 fashion collections by a few new designers..

Croatian born designer Vjera Vilicnik.

Vjera believes in quality over quantity which is displayed through the hand crafted embroidery of her collection. She perfected her skills of hand crafting at Ecole Lesage, the French school of haute couture embroidery.

The inspiration behind the collection is a girl becoming a woman. Dusty pinks are teamed with sophisticated black. Lines are simple allowing the hand stitched embellishments of feathers, beads and Swarovski crystals to transform the garments from ordinary to unique.

A plain white silk t-shirt reveals a cross over pattern of Swarovski crystal beads on organza at the back, whilst a conservative pink and black mini shirt dress shows a more adventurous side of feathers, ribbons and beads across the shoulder blades.

Her aim is to show that embroidery does not mean old fashioned and does not have to be heavy.

Central Saint Martin’s graduate Haizhen Wang.

Wang’s SS11 collection is inspired by his past work at MaxMara, Boudicca and All Saints mixed with his own personal creativity. Hand printed designs are either a combination of deep muted bronze and gold or the lighter mix of pale gold and pearl. His signature fabric of waxed cotton is used for the outerwear. The overall look is soft structured tailoring.

Anna Paola’s beachwear label Paolita. Born in the USA and raised in Greece, Anna studied fashion design at the Instituto Marangoni in Milan. For SS11 Anna has two collections: Voyage and Floreana.

Voyage is inspired by the explorers of the past and shows swimwear in nautical stripes. The stripes are of faded red, fern and blue with a few tiny ruffles here and there to give a vintage undertone. This collection is definitely for the woman who is not afraid to show off her body as even the one piece suits show a lot of middle with their cut away designs.

Floreana is inspired by the Galapagos Islands combining exotic and colourful ethnic prints in modern bright neon colours of fern, yellow, red and blue. Here we see a patchwork of patterns and colours together giving a carnival feel. This collection has a more varied choice for different body shapes: The Odalisque one piece is of a burlesque style with girlie frills at the top of the legs, the Sonnet one piece is more Hollywood glam with its halter neck cord tie, the Minikini is girlie with its little frilled skirt and the Shorti bikini is boyish with its mini short style bottoms.

Designer couple Israel and Pierre Imarni showed their fashion label Isy & Peeps – so called after their nicknames. The age market is 18-25 year old so the pieces are fun and flirty. The collection is a series of capsule items each based around a key trend for the season, but designed in colour and style so that they can be mixed together.

The first theme is ‘Tomorrow’s World’. Digital prints of birds in flight grace chiffon dresses and tunics.

The second is ‘Postcards from the Country’ where a city girl is on a walk through rural America on a hot summer’s afternoon. Here are prints of free running horses on sandy coloured chiffon mini dresses and blouses, juxtaposing femininity with the rugged prairie.

The third is ‘Script’ where everything is black and white, especially love.  Here we see ‘Isy & Peeps’ printed in black script all over white chiffon dresses and tunics.  Knitted maxis, tunics and capes are adorned with love hearts, love birds, ‘Love till the end’ and Isy & Peeps’ initials. Colours are white on black, black on white and some with a splash of red.

Hardcastle, a mid to high end ready to wear label which combines the relaxed Australian easy to wear attitude with the quality of European tailoring. The collection is called ‘As the Llamera Girl dances…’ and Louise Hardcastle took her inspiration from the colourful Quechuan women of Peru. She combines femininity with a touch of masculinity by mixing fabrics of suede, silk, chiffon, wool crepe and leather together. Colours are bright acid oranges, blues, pinks and reds. The neon pink dress combines an empire line band of suede on a wool crepe shirt covered with a layer of silk chiffon. A tan leather mini skirt is layered with wide suede looped bands. The digital print used is an aerial shot of Peru.

Spring 2011 fashion trends straight from catwalk

With all these “fashion weeks” surrounding us, we managed to take some notes about designer’s ideas when it comes to fashion for spring 2011.

So, after taking notes from Paris Fashion week, where, the most eccentric show was presented by Jean Paul Gaultier, who invited a plus-sized model, Beth Ditto, to present one of his outfits, let’s move to New York Fashion week, where we burst into the pajama dressing style and the stunning bright white! Twice yearly, the Big Apple goes out of its way to welcome high-powered media moguls and Hollywood movie stars who come to see, or be seen, at one of the planet’s most celebrated fashion events that attracts over 100000 attendees.

When moving back to Europe, Milan Fashion Show embraced Prada as the best designer and it seems that all Miuccia Prada’s outfits were a real success in the fashion industry for the upcoming year. And last, but not least, London’s Fashion Week, Pam Hogg, was, by far the most interesting appearance. With her models wearing only chains, belts and purse-friendly chastity belts, she entered in a modern zone that nobody defeated!

Short idea on the prêt-a-porter collections, just a reminder of what you should focus on, when it comes to Spring 2011 fashion trends.

2011 Spring fashion trends:

1.    Jeans, wide-legs and flares are back.

2.    Biker fashion and everything included: biker leather jacket, motorcycle boots and pants. All leather! The trendsetter for this spring 2011 trend is without a doubt, Burberry, with its trench coats with subtle quilting and motorcycle jacket zips, red leather motorcycle pants and zipped motorcycle jacket sleeves.

3.    Sexy dolly lace! And when it comes to lace, you can wear blouses, skirts or dresses. The trendsetter for next year could be: Balmain. All about black sexy lace in its catwalk presentations.

4.    When it comes to accessories, it seems that we are beck in the 50′ and 60′s. Cat eye glasses, doesn’t matter sunglasses or eye glasses, just remember that generally speaking a cat eye frame with rounded-out edges will work wonders for a square face or diamond shaped face. And, the Clogs! Clogs with heels only. And you’ll be surprised by the multitude of textures they got! The sexiest we spotted are Chanel Clogs.

2011 Fashion Guidelines For Men

It’s not just women who want to look good – we know that men do too, and so we’ve checked out the hottest catwalk trends for 2011. There’s something of a synergy between men’s and women’s fashion this year with one of the hottest male trends being floral patterns. These are seen in the shape of loud beach shorts to some great flowery shirts and more gentle paisley offerings. Perhaps the designers have decided to embrace the idea of the metrosexual.

Attractive, well-tailored blazers were also very much in abundance on the catwalks. These are particularly popular in block colors, suggesting it’s not all about feminine patters. Blazers are great as they look good on all men, with their superb lines and range of colors. Particularly hot blazer colors for 2011 include green, blue, grey and light mauve. These are great for formal events and also for more casual wear, making the blazer a great item for any occasion as well as effortlessly stylish.

If blazers aren’t really your thing, then never fear for they weren’t the only style of jacket spotted on the catwalks. The leather bomber jacket is also shaping up to be a hot trend for 2011, which is great news, particularly for sporty types. This is a fantastic, casual jacket that will keep the chill out at a whole range of social occasions. The myriad pockets mean that it’s a brilliantly practical buy and the sporty look works really well, particularly if worn unzipped as seen on the catwalk.

Of course, fashion is nothing if not ever so slightly odd from time to time, which may explain why crop tops were a key trend on the men’s 2011 catwalks. This may sound like one for the women, but trust us, it’s not. We’re not talking about tiny crops here, more like loose tees that are just a bit shorter than normal. These are really flattering if you’ve got a great set of abs to show off and are surprisingly. They’re most popular in block colors like black and white.

Staying on the theme of unexpected fashion trends for men in 2011, lace and other sheer clothes were also popular on the catwalks. Hear us out – they might sound a bit feminine, but they look great on men, too. They’re especially good for layering over other things, making them really versatile. An especially popular item was the sheer shirt, which could be great for showing off your tan on the beach during summer vacation, so this is one trend that could be worth investigating.
